Wilderness First Aid
Certification — Utah
16-hour WFA certification for Utah high school coaches, mountain biking clubs, and outdoor teams. On-site group sessions available across the Wasatch Front.
When Help Is Miles Away, You Are the Help
Standard First Aid assumes EMS is minutes away. In the backcountry, on a remote trail, or at an away competition, that assumption can be deadly. Wilderness First Aid bridges that gap.
Trail Crashes & Trauma
Mountain biking incidents happen fast. Know how to assess injuries, control bleeding, manage head trauma, and decide when and how to evacuate — without cell service.
Heat & Cold Emergencies
Recognize and manage heat exhaustion, heat stroke, hypothermia, and frostbite during outdoor practices and competitions in Utah’s variable conditions.
Fractures & Dislocations
Improvise splints, manage spinal injuries in the field, and safely move an injured athlete when waiting is not an option.
Anaphylaxis & Medical Emergencies
Respond to severe allergic reactions, seizures, diabetic emergencies, and cardiac events when advanced care is not immediately accessible.
Wound Care in the Field
Clean and dress wounds, recognize infection risk, and manage soft tissue injuries that can’t wait for a clinic visit after a long ride out.
Patient Assessment & Evacuation
Conduct a systematic patient assessment, communicate with EMS on arrival, and make confident decisions about evacuation — improvised or organized.
What to Expect
A hands-on, scenario-based course designed to build real confidence — not just check a box.
Course Length
16 hours of instruction, typically delivered over two full days or four half-days. We schedule around your team’s calendar.
Hands-On Scenarios
The majority of course time is spent in simulated wilderness scenarios — not in a classroom watching slides. You practice, not just listen.
Certification
Participants who complete the course and pass the skills assessment receive a recognized Wilderness First Aid certification valid for two years.
Group Pricing
We offer discounted rates for school coaching staffs, club teams, and organizations booking 8 or more participants. Contact us for a quote.

Built for Coaches, Clubs & Outdoor Teams
Whether you’re a NICA-licensed high school MTB coach who needs to stay certified or a mountain biking club that rides remote Utah terrain, this course is for you.
High School MTB Coaches
NICA requires all licensed coaches to hold a current Wilderness First Aid certification when operating more than one hour from definitive care — and most Wasatch Front trails easily meet that threshold. A lapsed cert means a lapsed license. We specialize in getting coaching staffs certified efficiently, with flexible scheduling and group rates designed for school programs.
- Satisfies NICA coach licensing requirement
- Certify your entire coaching staff at once
- Flexible scheduling around school calendars
- We come to your school or district facility
Mountain Biking Clubs & Teams
Utah’s trails are world-class — and remote. When a rider goes down miles from the trailhead, a WFA-certified teammate can mean the difference between a bad day and a tragedy.
- High school & youth MTB teams
- Adult riding clubs & groups
- Race teams & event staff
- Trail crew & volunteer organizations
Outdoor Educators & Guides
Anyone leading people into Utah’s backcountry — hiking guides, climbing instructors, outdoor education programs — can benefit from this certification.
- Outdoor education programs
- Scout troops & youth groups
- Hiking & backpacking guides
- Camp staff & counselors
Britny Sorenson, MS
Britny holds a Master of Science in Safety Engineering and brings both academic expertise and genuine enthusiasm for hands-on training to every course she delivers. She understands that the best safety training sticks not because it’s required, but because it’s engaging, practical, and immediately useful.
Her approach to Wilderness First Aid is scenario-first: participants spend the majority of course time working through realistic emergencies, not sitting through lectures. By the end of the two-day course, you won’t just have a certification — you’ll have the muscle memory and decision-making confidence to actually use it when it counts.
Britny also leads GreenBridge’s industrial hygiene assessments and OSHA training programs, and is the primary point of contact for all training engagements.
